The Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild will present the 2010 Celebration of the Arts Show and Sale at the Foundation Performing Arts Center at Isothermal Community College in Spindale from Wednesday September 15 through Sunday September 19. Hours are 9 to 5 (Sunday 1 to 5).
An Event Reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 17, with presentation of awards, closing of the silent auction, and raffle of an elegant pottery vase donated by 2009 Celebration winner, Daniel Bair. The public is invited to attend.
Hundreds of works by regional artists will on display. Works by participants in the Guild’s Summer Arts camp will be on display in the Balcony area. In addition to works in the Celebration Exhibit, an “Art Boutique” will offer additional pieces for purchase. Three collages created by students in the Summer Art Camp will be among the specially featured items in the silent auction which will begin on Wednesday, September 15th at 9 a.m. and close on Friday, September 17 at the Event Reception.
Local artists are encouraged to participate. Information and applications may be downloaded. Awards will be given in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art.
The juror this year will be Connie Bostic, a native of Rutherford County. She holds a B.A. in art from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a Masters degree in studio art from Western Carolina University. Bostic has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work is owned by the Asheville Art Museum and the State of North Carolina. From 1990 to 2000, she owned and operated the ‘zone one’ contemporary gallery in Asheville. For many years Bostic has served on the board of Directors of the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center. |
